UK Home Office Confirms 20-Hour Work Limit for International Students Remains Unchanged for 2026

The UK Home Office has confirmed that work hour limits for international students holding a UK Student visa will remain unchanged for the 2026 academic year, according to current UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) rules.

Under existing regulations, international students are permitted to:

  • Work up to 20 hours per week during term time
  • Work full-time during official university vacation periods

As of 3 January 2026, the UK Home Office has not announced any policy amendments to these limits, despite online claims suggesting possible reductions or restrictions. The confirmation applies to students enrolled in degree-level courses and above, including Indian nationals studying in the UK.

The Home Office has reiterated that unauthorised work or exceeding permitted hours may impact immigration status, and compliance with visa conditions continues to be a key requirement under the UK Student Route.
